Some things that I should remember
A few weeks ago I hurt my toe.
I was wearing socks in the kitchen. Marino wool. Warm. Soft. Slippery. I sock slipped on the floor after taking a very normal step, and slammed my toe into the over door.
While I don’t think my toe was broken, it hurt to put weight on it for a while. This prevented me from rock climbing for the next several weeks. An absolutely huge bummer, because rock climbing is currently my primary physical activity.
During the Toe Rest Period (TRP), I did not work out my arms. I did not work out my core. I did not work out my other leg. I did not work on flexibility.
As a result, whilst I was feeling real weak while climbing, I thought to myself: “Oh. I coulda just kept working out while TRP took place.”
Sometimes I do things that seem foolish on first reflection. In this case, I don’t think the absence of thinking about muscle maintenance during TRP (MMDTRP) was foolish. Rather, I feel great that the next time I mess up a part of my body, I will intentionally continue to improve whatever muscles retain their functionality during TRP.
Onward to becoming a hulked out freak scaling up the wall!
